This guide will help you with how to add mods to your V Rising server.
IMPORTANT WARNING! READ BEFORE INSTALLING ANY MODS! SERVER MODDING BEST PRACTICES!
- Always try to install 1 mod, configure it, test it, and once working, move to the next mod, installing 30 or 40 or more mods at the same time most times just causes problems, because if 1 of the mods it's outdated or broken or requires dependencies to run, it will break all other mods, nothing will work and will make it harder to understand the problematic mod and where the problem comes.
- Always read the mod instructions or installation tutorial included, some mods require extra steps to make it work.
- Always read the mod description and warnings, some mods require other mods as dependencies to make it work.
- Always try to understand if the mod it's still updated and working, some mods are outdated and not working anymore, mods that don't get an update for a long time have a higher chance to be not working correctly.
- If you are going to use Thunderstore.io automatic installer, DO NOT INSTALL BepInex, HookeGenPatcher as mods, they are not mods, they are plugin loaders and patchers, they can be installed from Mod Manager button, installing them as a mod will break your server.
#A - INSTALL MODS USING OUR THUNDERSTORE.IO AUTOMATIC INSTALLER
For this example we going to use QuickStash, and Guardian2 mods:
QuickStash: https://v-rising.thunderstore.io/package/Elmegaard/QuickStash/
Guardian2: https://v-rising.thunderstore.io/package/ACP/Guardian2/
- Stop your server.
- Go to [MOD MANAGER] button and install BepInEx from Fameworks category.
- Go to [CONFIGURATION FILES] button, edit [Valheim.mods] file with [TEXT EDITOR] option.
- One per line, add the mod end of the link, starting after the package part, example: Elmegaard/QuickStash/ and ACP/Guardian2/ exactly like that or will not work.
- Press the [ThunderStore.io Mods] button and wait for the mods to install.
- Start your server to generate all the configuration files, the configuration files can be found inside [BepInEx\config\] folder.
WARNING! MOD INSTALLATION SIDE NOTES!
- Some plugins come with the configuration files inside the plugin folder, find those configuration files inside BepInEx\plugins\PLUGINNAME\
B - INSTALL MODS MANUALLY FROM OTHER SOURCES
For this example we going to use Guardian2 mod from NexusMods:
Guardian2: https://www.nexusmods.com/vrising/mods/4
- Find the mod you want to use on ThunderStore.io, NexusMods.com, or any other source (in this example we going to use NexusMods.com) download it to your computer, and unzip.
- Connect to your server FTP following this guide: HOW TO CONNECT TO YOUR SERVER FTP
- Inside your server FTP Navigate to [\BepInEx\plugins\] and upload the folder that contains the plugin.dll file.
- Start your server to generate the plugin configuration file, plugin configuration can be found inside: [\BepInEx\config\] folder.
WARNING! MOD INSTALLATION SIDE NOTES!
- Some mods contain more than the plugin.dll file, all files need to be uploaded.
- Some mods contain the plugin.dll and other files inside subfolders when you unzip it (a folder inside a folder inside another folder), always upload just the folder that contains the files.
- Some plugins do not contain any folders, when you unzip them, the files will be outside of a folder, you can upload those files directly to \BepInEx\plugins\ folder, or create a folder with the name of the plugin, put the files inside, and upload that folder for better organization.
- Some plugins come with the configuration files in the zip file, configure the plugin using those configuration files.
