Terraria Bosses: Pre-Hardmode
Pre-Hardmode Bosses:
Get ready for the first thrilling encounters with these Terraria bosses! Taking them down not only provides valuable items but also unlocks the materials crucial for advancing in the game and eventually reaching Hardmode.
While there are 8 pre-Hardmode bosses, a single world can host only 7 at a time.
The Eater of Worlds is exclusive to Corruption-infested worlds, and the Brain of Cthulhu makes its home in worlds with the Crimson.
With your Terraria Server, you and your firends can experiment with different world seeds or grab special seeds from the Dryad NPC in Hardmode.
King Slime
Upon being defeated, King Slime doesn't grant access to game-advancing items. However, in regular mode, it generously drops one Gold Coin, one or two pieces of Ninja clothes, and various slime-related items. In Expert Mode (and Master Mode), King Slime gains the ability to summon Spiked Slimes, resembling the Spiked Jungle Slime and Spiked Ice Slime.
Get piercing power!
Equip yourself with weapons that can pierce, like spears, bows with Jester Arrows, or magic weapons. These will hit King Slime multiple times as the projectiles pass through his massive body. Short swords and yoyos also work great since you’ll be up close and personal.
Move and groove!
King Slime will hop around and try to ram into you, so keep on the move! Grapple Hooks, double jump abilities and mobility accessories will help you stay one step ahead of the slime. Run and jump in circles around King Slime to avoid his hop attacks.
Slime genocide for the win!
As King Slime bounces about, he’ll spawn little Blue Slimes to help fight you. Take these out quickly to gain extra health and mana. The slimes are easy to defeat and drop valuable pick-ups to keep you in the battle.
Almost there!
Once King Slime is down to about 1/3 health, he’ll start moving faster and sending out spikes from his body. Stay alert and keep pounding him with your weapons. Deal the final blow and collect your loot! You’ve defeated your first boss.
Eye of Cthulhu
It’s time to take on another boss in Terraria, the Eye of Cthulhu! This giant flying eyeball may seem intimidating, but with the right equipment and strategy you’ll have it beat in no time.
Summon and Dodge
Once night falls, use a Suspicious Looking Eye to summon the boss. Immediately start running and jumping to avoid its charges and spiky pupils. Shurikens thrown straight up can deal damage to the Eye of Cthulhu both on the initial hit and when they fall down. Fire your bow whenever possible while on the move.
Final Stage
At half health, the Eye of Cthulhu transforms into its second form. It stops charging and instead rapid fires lasers and spawns minion eyes. Focus the minions first, then hammer the boss with your weapons. With good dodging on the wooden platforms, the Eye of Cthulhu will go down and drop loot to craft new gear. Congrats, you’ve defeated your first boss!
The Eye of Cthulhu battle teaches skills you'll use for every boss after. With the right preparation and technique, you'll be conquering bosses in no time and progressing to endgame Terraria! Now get out there and loot up - there are many more bosses that need slaying!
Eater of Worlds
The Eater of Worlds is one of the earliest Terraria bosses you’ll face, but don’t underestimate this giant worm! To summon this beast, smash three Shadow Orbs found at the bottom of the chasms in The Corruption.
Explore
Once you’ve explored the Corruption and gathered plenty of ores, head underground and craft some armour and a sword or bow and lots of arrows or javelins. You’ll also want to craft some potions to boost your stats before the battle.
Summon it
When you’re ready, head to a Corruption chasm and drop a Worm Food item into it. The Eater of Worlds will emerge, so start attacking its head immediately! Focus your attacks on one segment at a time, and dodge its charges and the pits it creates. Use your ranged weapon when it’s far away, then your sword for melee combat.
If its head gets too close, run and use your grappling hook to escape. Once you’ve destroyed about 10 body segments, the rest will flee and drop shadow scales, which you’ll need for crafting gear. Congrats, you defeated this wicked worm!
Get you loot
With the right prep, you'll be chewing through this creepy-crawly in no time. The valuable loot and experience you gain will boost your character to new heights. Keep exploring, gear up, and take on the next threat to your world! The Corruption doesn't stand a chance against a hero like you!
Brain of Cthulhu
Are you ready to take on the creepy crimson cranium? The Brain of Cthulhu is your first major boss battle in Terraria, but don’t worry, with these tips you’ll send this brainiac packing in no time!
Find the Crimson Hearts
First, you’ll need to track down 3 Crimson Hearts in the Crimson biome. These pulsating red organs are usually found in caves or tunnels below the surface. Destroy them with your pickaxe or bombs and the Brain of Cthulhu will awaken, ready to ram, chomp and teleport its way to victory.
Dodge the Charge
In its first form, the Brain will try to ram you at high speed. Stay on the move and jump over it, or use Grappling Hooks to quickly get out of the way. After a few charges, it will transform into its vulnerable second form.
Attack the Brains!
Now the real battle begins! The Brain will split into many Creepers that circle around it. Destroy these Creepers to damage the Brain. It will frequently teleport, so be ready to dodge more ramming attacks. Use ranged weapons for the Creepers and melee for the Brain.
Repeat and Defeat!
Keep dodging those teleporting attacks, destroying Creepers and whacking the Brain until its HP drops to zero. Congrats, you've defeated your first major boss! The Brain will drop valuable Crimtane Ore and Tissue Samples to make better gear, preparing you to face even more fearsome foes.
Queen Bee
The Queen Bee is one boss you'll definitely want to take on in Terraria! This oversized bee packs a mean sting, but with the right gear and strategy, you'll emerge victorious.
Equipment
Make sure you've got at least silver or gold armour, a ranged weapon like a bow or gun, and plenty of healing potions before facing the Queen Bee. The Hive Pack or similar gear is ideal for the added movement speed and double jump. Stock up on arrows, bullets or beenades and you'll be ready to rock!
The Battle
Find a beehive biome and break the larva inside to summon the Queen Bee. She'll come at you fast, shooting poison stingers and swooping around. Focus your attacks on her large body and dodge those stingers! Watch out for her charge attack and the smaller bees defending her.
Take the smaller bees out quickly with area-of-effect weapons like grenades or Molotov cocktails. If the Queen Bee traps you, grapple to safety. Keep your distance, avoid her stingers and charges, and keep firing - she'll go down in no time!
Rewards
Victory over the Queen Bee nets you honey, beenades, the Bee Keeper, and the Witch Doctor NPC. The Bee Keeper is a great early-game magic weapon that shoots homing bees, and the Witch Doctor sells useful items once housed. You'll also get a health and mana boost from the Queen Bee's defeat.
Skeletron
Preparing for the Fight
To take on Skeletron, you need to be well equipped and prepared. Gather plenty of healing potions, buff potions, and mana potions. Stock up on arrows or bullets for your ranged weapons. Make sure you have an arena built - a large open area without obstacles is best. Use platforms, campfires and heart lanterns to give you advantages during the battle.
Focus on the Hands First
As soon as the battle begins, focus your attacks on Skeletron's hands. His hands have less defence and fewer hitpoints than his head, so destroying them first will make the rest of the fight much easier. Use your most powerful weapons to deal high damage quickly before he starts spinning. Once the hands are down, his head defence will drop significantly.
Avoid the Spin Attack
Skeletron's most dangerous attack is his spin attack. He will retract his arms and start spinning rapidly, dealing huge damage if he hits you. As soon as you see him prepare to spin, get as far away from him as possible by using a grappling hook or by dropping down from your arena. Stay away until he stops spinning, then resume your attacks. Using this strategy, you can avoid taking damage from the spin altogether.
Ranged Weapons and High Defence
Since Skeletron moves so quickly, using ranged weapons like bows, guns or magic weapons is very effective. Melee weapons can be difficult to use without taking damage. Wear the highest defence armour you have and use defence boosting potions to reduce damage taken. With the right strategy and equipment, you can defeat Skeletron and gain access to the dungeon!
Deerclops
When the dreaded Deerclops awakens in your world, you'll want to be prepared for an epic battle! This massive beast is one of the biggest and baddest bosses in Terraria, but with the right gear and strategy, you can send it packing.
Gear Up
The best way to defeat Deerclops is to go in armed to the teeth with powerful sentry weapons. The Ballista Rod and Explosive Trap Rod are ideal for passively damaging this brute while you focus on dodging its devastating attacks. You'll also want high-level melee or ranged gear to deliver extra damage when you get an opening.
Fight
When the fight begins, Deerclops will start stomping towards you, swiping with its huge arms and shooting a freeze ray from its eye. Stay on the move to avoid getting hit, circling around the boss in one direction. As it slams the ground, unleash your sentries and pepper it with arrows or bullets. Once it's preparing another slam, dash to the opposite side of the arena.
Deerclops' most dangerous attack is its shockwave, signalled when its eye starts glowing blue. As soon as you see this, get in close to the boss - the shockwave won't hit the area immediately around its body. Keep circling and attacking, and before you know it, you'll have vanquished this frosty foe!
Wall of Flesh
The dreaded Wall of Flesh is the final boss guarding the border between pre-Hardmode and Hardmode. To summon this beastly boss, you’ll need to throw a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava in the Underworld. Once summoned, the Wall of Flesh will awaken and charge at you from one side of the map, so prepare for a serious battle!
Gear Up
Equip your strongest melee or ranged armour and weapons. Recommended picks include the Molten armour, Star Cannon, Minishark or Flamelash. Stock up on healing and mana potions too, you’ll need them!
The Fight
The Wall of Flesh has two bulbous eyes that fire lasers and a gnarly mouth that spits out hungry creatures. Focus your attacks on the eyes, as the mouth just regenerates health. Dodge the lasers and use a platform to avoid the hungry - they pack a punch!
Keep attacking those peepers with your strongest weapons. Once an eye is destroyed, the remaining eye will become enraged, firing faster lasers - so be swift! Upon defeating the second eye, the mouth will become vulnerable. Unleash your most powerful attacks and that toothy terror will go down for good!
Victory!
The Wall of Flesh may seem daunting, but with the right prep and persistence you'll turn that beast into a feast! Stay sharp, keep fighting, and claim your victory over this gruesome guardian. The rewards of Hardmode await!
