Terraria Events: Hardmode

Terraria Events: Hardmode

Terraria’s hardmode is when the real challenge begins! Once you’ve defeated the Wall of Flesh, your world transforms and unleashes powerful new enemies and events. These hardmode events will test your mettle in you Terraria Sever, but the rewards are well worth it.

Frost Legion - A Hardmode exclusive event, akin to the Goblin Army, is initiated using a specific item. During the Christmas season, enemies drop presents as part of this festive event.

Solar Eclipse - A distinct Hardmode event, the obscured sunrise casts an eerie darkness darker than nighttime. Regular biome enemies are replaced by numerous special foes, spawning more frequently and in greater numbers near NPCs.

Pirate Invasion - An event closely resembling the Goblin Army may occur randomly or be summoned using a Pirate Map. Obtainable by defeating any enemy in the Ocean biome during Hardmode, this map triggers the invasion.

Pumpkin Moon - A Halloween themed event, unfolds in 15 distinct waves that grow increasingly challenging throughout the night. The culmination is the intense "Final Wave," lasting until dawn.

Frost Moon - In a festive Christmas themed event, the Frost Moon follows the same wave system as the Pumpkin Moon. With a total of 20 waves, including the "Final Wave" and five additional "bonus waves," the challenges intensify progressively throughout the night.

Martian Madness - A post-Golem event with an alien invasion theme stands out from others. To initiate it, players must encounter a Martian Probe randomly in the outer regions of the surface and space levels of the world and step into its light.

Lunar Events - An extraordinary event unfolds, featuring the Celestial Pillars - four distinct structures evenly scattered across the world. Within the proximity of each pillar, enemies themed to the respective pillar spawn.

Frost Legion - Three Icy Enemies

Have you summoned the Frost Legion yet? If not, you're in for a fun challenge! To start this wintry invasion, you'll need to acquire a Snow Globe, which has a chance to drop from Presents during the Christmas event. Once you have a Snow Globe, use it and get ready for battle!

Frost Legion terraria

The Frost Legion is made up of three types of enemies: Snowmen, who throw snowballs; Mister Stabby, the knife-wielding snowman; and the fearsome Ice Queen herself. These frosty foes will swarm your world, so build defences, grab your weapons, and prepare to defend your base!

Summon them!

To summon the Frost Legion, simply use the Snow Globe from your inventory. You'll hear a loud roar, signalling that the invasion has begun! The enemies will then spawn off-screen and charge towards you. The Frost Legion can be quite dangerous, especially in Expert Mode, so make sure you have good gear and buffs before summoning them.

Tips for Battle

  • Focus on the Ice Queen first - she can deal lots of damage with her ice shard attack. Take her out and the rest will be much easier.
  • Use fire or lava for crowd control. The enemies are made of snow and ice, so fire is very effective against them.
  • Get the Snowman Cannon if you can - it drops from Mister Stabby and shoots snowballs that explode into shards of ice. Fight ice with ice!
  • Build defences to funnel the enemies - using blocks to create a winding path towards you will make the battle more manageable.
  • Stay mobile! Keep moving to avoid the enemies' attacks while firing back at them.

Rewards

With the right prep and strategy, you'll be able to take on the Frost Legion with no trouble. Defeating them will grant you special drops like the Snowman Cannon, as well as holiday cheer and the satisfaction of protecting your world from an icy invasion!

Solar Eclipse - What Happens and How to Trigger It

A Solar Eclipse in Terraria is an exciting event where the sky goes dark and enemies swarm! To trigger this event, you'll need to defeat at least one of the mechanical bosses - The Destroyer, Skeletron Prime or The Twins.

Solar Eclipse terraria

How the Eclipse Works

During a Solar Eclipse, the sun is blocked out by the moon passing in front of it, plunging the world into darkness. In Terraria, this means reduced visibility and some spooky changes. Zombies will start spawning, along with special eclipse enemies like the Corrupt/Crimson Mimic, Butcher, Deadly Spheres and Reapers. These extra-tough foes drop rare items, so battling through the eclipse can be very rewarding!

Start the Event

To start the event, simply defeat any mechanical boss. From that point onward, each new day has a chance to spawn an eclipse until you defeat another boss. The eclipse starts at dawn and lasts until dusk, so be prepared once the sun comes up!

Tips for Surviving the Eclipse

  • Stock up on potions like Ironskin, Regeneration and Wrath/Rage potions to boost your stats.
  • Wear the best armour and accessories you have to maximise your defence and damage.
  • Use a ranged weapon like the Clockwork Assault Rifle or Megashark to attack enemies from a distance.
  • Build barriers or safe spots to hide from enemies when needed. You can also use lava, traps or summoned minions for extra protection.
  • The eclipse can be very difficult in Expert Mode, so you may want to avoid triggering it until you have endgame gear.
  • Playing with other players on a multiplayer server makes the event much easier. Team up to conquer the eclipse together!

With the right preparation and equipment, you'll be battling through solar eclipses in no time. The unique loot and money drops make it well worth surviving this challenging Terraria event.

Pirate Invasion - Causes and Surviving It

A Pirate Invasion is one of the most exciting random events in Terraria! Every now and then, a Pirate Map will drop which you can use to summon a pirate ship to unleash a crew of swashbuckling invaders on your world.

Pirate Invasion terraria

How to Start a Pirate Invasion

Once you've entered Hardmode by defeating the Wall of Flesh, Pirate Maps have a chance to drop from enemies in the Cavern layer. Using one of these maps will summon the pirate ship to begin the invasion! You can also buy Pirate Maps from the Pirate NPC if he happens to move into your town.

Surviving the Plundering Pirates

When the pirate ship appears, pirate enemies will swarm out and attack! Focus on ranged pirates first, as their gunfire and cannonballs deal a tonne of damage. Use platforms and your grappling hook to manoeuvre out of their line of fire. Melee pirates are also dangerous, so keep your distance while firing at them.

The Boss

Don't bother attacking the Flying Dutchman itself - it's invincible! Just concentrate on defeating the pirate invaders. After you've vanquished 100 pirates, the Flying Dutchman will retreat and the invasion will end.

Rewards

The loot you'll get from this high seas battle royale is well worth it! You'll get gold coins, pirate outfits, discount cards to use with the Pirate NPC, and even a lucky coin or two! You might even get a rare Cutlass sword or Coin Gun.

Pumpkin Moon - Unleashing the Pumpkin Moon Horrors

The Pumpkin Moon is one of the most thrilling events in Terraria - if you dare to summon it! This Halloween themed challenge will push your combat skills to the max as you fend off wave after wave of the creepiest enemies.

Pumpkin Moon terraria

Summoning the Horror

To unleash the terrors of the Pumpkin Moon, you’ll need to craft the Pumpkin Moon Medallion. Once you’ve defeated Plantera, head to the dungeon and farm enemies until you get a Pumpkin Moon Medallion Blueprint. Then gather the materials - it requires ectoplasm, pumpkins, and chlorophyte bars.

Craft the medallion at a Mythril Anvil and then activate it at night to begin the event! The spooky fun will last until dawn at 4:30am.

Brace Yourself for the Onslaught

Once activated, the most ghastly mobs will start spawning at a rapid rate. Mourning Woods, Splinterlings, Hellhounds, and Poltergeists are just a few of the creepy crawlies you’ll encounter. They get progressively more difficult, so make sure you’re equipped with the best gear and buffs.

The ultimate challenge is battling the Pumpking - the massive undead pumpkin king. Defeating this beastly boss will reward you greatly with powerful weapons, accessories and loot. But be warned, the Pumpking won’t go down without an epic fight!

This thrilling Halloween event is one of the most rewarding challenges in Terraria. If you’re up for a spooky battle and want to get your hands on some of the best endgame loot, summon the Pumpkin Moon and unleash the horrors!

Frost Moon - Summoning the Frost Legion

The Frost Moon event is truly a winter wonderland in Terraria! To summon the Frost Legion and kick off this chilly challenge, you’ll need to acquire a rare Snow Globe. Once you have this special item in your possession, smash that globe and get ready for a blizzard of excitement!

Frost Moon terraria

Obtaining a Snow Globe

The Snow Globe can only be obtained as a reward during the Christmas seasonal event. You’ll receive Presents randomly while playing, and there’s a small chance one will contain the elusive Snow Globe. Make sure to pop open all the Presents you receive during Christmas to increase your odds of discovering this frosty artefact!

Summoning the Frost Legion

When you’re ready to summon the Frost Legion, simply use your Snow Globe from your inventory and the evil Snowmen will arrive! The Frost Legion will not invade on its own, so you have full control over when these frigid fiends appear.

Preparing for Battle

Before summoning the Frost Legion, prepare yourself for an icy onslaught! Equip warm clothing, stock up on supplies, and forge strong gear to overcome these chilling challengers. The Frost Legion consists of three wicked warriors:

  • Snowmen - Weak minions that lob snowballs. Take them out first!
  • Ice Tortoises - Armoured foes that charge and ram. Circle around them and attack from behind!
  • Stalkers - Agile assassins that teleport and slash. Keep your distance and use ranged weapons!

With the proper precautions taken, smashing your Snow Globe will kick off a flurry of frosty fun as you fend off the Frost Legion.

The Bosses

The Frost Moon event in Terraria brings some seriously cool bosses to battle! Everscream, Santa-NK1 and the Ice Queen are the most formidable foes you’ll face during this chilly challenge.

Martian Madness - How to Initiate a Martian Invasion

Want to start a full-on alien invasion in Terraria? The Martian Madness event is just what you’re looking for! Once you’ve defeated the mighty Golem boss, this chaotic event can be triggered for some out-of-this-world action.

Martian Madness terraria

How to Begin the Madness

To initiate a Martian invasion, you’ll need to attract the attention of a Martian Probe. These little UFOs will randomly spawn and fly across your world. When one detects you, it will flash red and try to escape. You’ll need to damage it before it can flee to trigger the event.

Use weapons with a fast projectile speed like the Megashark or Razorblade Typhoon to hit the probe quickly before it zooms off. Once you defeat a probe, the message “The Martians are invading!” will appear and the chaos will begin! Alien saucers, walkers, and zapoters will descend from space to attack you.

The Rewards Are Out of This World

Defeating the Martian hordes and the Martian Saucer will earn you some stellar loot. The saucers have a chance to drop the deadly Xenopopper gun or the bouncy Electrosphere launcher. You can also get your hands on a variety of laser guns from the Martian walkers like the Charged Blaster Cannon or Laser Machinegun.

Rare drops include the Cosmic Car Key summoning item which calls a flying saucer mount or the Anti-Gravity Hook allowing you to grapple in mid-air. The Martian Conduit Plating material can be used to craft the stylish Martian costume set or the powerful Cosmic Car Key.

Repeat the Madness

Once the initial invasion is over, the Martian Probe has a chance to spawn again randomly, allowing you to trigger another event. You can also use a Battle Potion and Water Candle to increase the spawn rate and start the madness sooner. Defeating the Martian Madness multiple times will increase your chances of getting all the unique drops.

Lunar Events - Summoning and Surviving the Celestial Pillars

The Lunar Events are some of the most challenging parts of Terraria, but also offer amazing loot that will prepare you for the final boss. To trigger these events, you’ll first need to defeat the Lunatic Cultist boss. Once defeated, four Celestial Pillars will spawn in your world, each representing a different class of weapon. Destroying these pillars will summon powerful enemies and eventually the Moon Lord himself!

Lunar Event terraria

To survive the Celestial Pillars, here are some tips:

  • Focus on one Pillar at a time. Don’t spread yourself too thin by trying to defeat all four simultaneously.
  • Build an arena. Create a large open space with platforms at multiple levels so you can dodge enemy attacks. Place campfires and heart lanterns for health regeneration.
  • Use the terrain to your advantage. Try fighting the Solar Pillar in a hilly area so you have more time to dodge the Crawltipedes. Fight the Vortex Pillar in an enclosed space to avoid the Alien Queens.
  • Choose the right gear. Equip armour and accessories that boost your damage and defence for the pillar you’re facing. Melee for Solar, Ranged for Vortex, Magic for Nebula, and Summoning for Stardust.
  • Keep moving! The enemies from these pillars shoot a tonne of projectiles, so staying mobile is key. Dodge and weave to avoid getting hit.
  • Focus the Pillar itself. Destroying the pillar will stop the enemy spawns, even if you haven’t defeated all the enemies. So attack the pillar whenever possible in between fighting off enemies.

With the right strategy and equipment, you'll be grabbing sweet loot from the Celestial Pillars in no time! Stay determined and keep trying - your persistence will pay off!
